How do I change the delimiter to something other than a hash tag?

By default, each field in the file name is separated with a hash tag (#) as detailed in What should I name the PDF file that is used for creating payslips?. This character cannot be used elsewhere within the file name. This delimiter, however, can be changed to a different value in the Admin | System | System Settings | File Locations under the Filename Delimiter Character option.
